Established in Southend-on-Sea
For over 35 years, Chalkwell Auctions has helped families, estates, and collectors across Essex and beyond — with straightforward advice, genuine expertise, and a deep respect for the objects in our care.
Chalkwell Auctions is an antique auction house established in the Southend area for almost 40 years. Following our relocation in 2010, we have grown into an important saleroom in the South of England.
We are proud to have been one of the first provincial auction houses to offer live online bidding — and today our catalogues are viewed by over 250,000 people, with thousands participating from around the world in every sale.
A major part of our work involves deceased estates. We offer a full house clearance service — we don't cherry-pick the best items and leave families to manage the rest. The bulk of our work comes from recommendation, from satisfied individuals and solicitors alike.
The team
When you call Chalkwell, you speak to someone who knows their subject. We are a small, experienced team — and we are always happy to help.
Auctioneer
Trevor has been in the business for over 50 years, having begun dealing at age 8 and auctioneering since 18. He is particularly renowned for his expertise in Chinese art and antiques, has authored two books on Chinese Snuff Bottles published by Schiffer Books, and has appeared on BBC Antiques Road Trip. He guides Antiques Trails across China, Tibet, and beyond, and writes the long-running column Tittle Tattle and Tantrums in the Antiques Trade.
Saleroom Manager
Andrea is responsible for the day-to-day running of every auction. She holds an undergraduate degree in Art History from the University of Valencia (with placements in Barcelona and Paris) and a Master's in Fine and Decorative Arts cataloguing and valuation from Christie's London, where she specialised in 18th-century furniture and subsequently worked in the Christie's Ceramics department. Fluent in Spanish and French.
General Manager
Bryn joined Chalkwell in 2017 as an apprentice and has grown with the business ever since. His thorough knowledge of our operations and the trade makes him an invaluable part of the team today.
Team Leader
Maisie has been with us for several years and has progressed impressively through many roles within the company — a testament to her dedication and skill across all areas of saleroom operations.

Marketing Director
Wojciech is our Auctionet project manager, responsible for curating and managing our presence on the platform — ensuring our lots reach the widest possible audience of buyers worldwide.
Porter & Collection Assistant
Grant is one of the members of the collection team and is very experienced in spotting what can be sold and what needs to be cleared.
How we work
We'll tell you what your items are realistically worth, not what you want to hear. Inflated estimates help no one. Our reputation is built on straight talk.
No hidden charges, no surprise deductions. Our buyer's premium and seller's commission are stated upfront, and we itemise every transaction fully.
Every item in our care — from a Georgian ring to a large piece of furniture — is handled with the same attention we would give our own possessions.
Through Auctionet and our own live bidding platform, Chalkwell lots reach buyers across the globe. Over 250,000 people view our catalogues each sale.
